Freezone Sohar awards infrastructure contract - Freezone Sohar yesterday awarded an important contract for building infrastructure to Premier International Projects.
The scope of work includes construction of road networks, street lights, drainage channels, culverts and other facilities in an area of 250 hectares, Jamal T. Aziz, chief executive of Freezone Sohar told media, after signing the pact.
This contract follows the successful execution of package one for levelling of land and fencing. This work is about to be completed by Al Naboodah Contracting.
The second package for developing infrastructure was signed on behalf of the free zone by Sheikh Sa’ad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouof Al Sa’adi, minister of commerce and industry, Jamal T. Aziz and Mohan Babu, managing director of Premier International Projects, on behalf of his company, C. Tauro, general director at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, also signed the pact.
The minister of commerce and industryis also the chairman of Sohar Industrial Port Company.
Multi-product zone
With this contract, Sohar freezone ensures the timely availability of first class infrastructure to its tenants.
It is a multi-product zone and attracts investors in downstream, manufacturing and logistics sectors. Aziz said about five to six companies have already signed with the free zone authorities to set up their logistic centre or manufacturing base within the zone. These customers have either reserved plots or are preparing to commence construction. Interest ranges from industrial to logistic activities taking advantage of free zone incentives, facilities and the diverse port-related services.
The management of Freezone Sohar lies with Sohar Free Zone, which is a joint venture of Oman government, the Port of Rotterdam of the Netherlands and SKIL Infrastructure of India. |
